    “Now, the back seat is a scary part.”

    Narrator: So, in the front seats, they’re by the handle. In the back seats, they might be under the rug or behind a speaker grill or behind the trim on a door. Or, I actually found one in the Model Y–it was in the door pocket under a plastic flap.

    How is this legal?!

    I have been in a Tesla exactly once, as a back seat passenger. I could not figure out how to open the door and I was not on fire at the time.

      Regulations in the USA, at any rate, are made for the convenience of rich folk getting richer, not for the safety of citizens. I don’t know what the state of these are in Europe. Do the European-sold Teslas have sane manual door opening?

      I would assume that insurance companies (the ones that do the crash tests) will need to look at the insurance cost of doors that can’t open. Start taking stars off as it is save for the occupier in the initial crash but they end up dead anyway

      Not easily enough. Most other manufacturers have the rear and door windows made of sugar glass. first thing to brake in a crash and allows crews to get in and occupants to get out. This was because in a crash the door frame can be damaged and stops the door opening. I know rescue crews have tools to cut laminate windows like this but I doubt it has any practical benefit and makes it harder to self evacuate.
