As someone who enjoys timberborn, I wonder if the tax mechanics help address the issue timberborn has with the late game lacking any real challenge. Much of the fun is front loaded in that game for, so I tend to restart often. A challenge beyond simple survival might address that gap.
Haven’t tried this yet, but it does look pretty cool (although I am not sure I like the empire tax mechanics).
