Down: With the start of the school year, we got the fee details for the daycare service on ped days. It’s $20 per day if the kids stay at school, and $50-55 if there’s a field trip. It makes no sense at all…

Up: I transferred my TFSA from Questrade to Wealthsimple where I already had another TFSA. It took just a week, was super efficient, and they’ve already reimbursed the transfer fees. Plus, you can directly track the transfer progress in the app. Now, all that’s left is to transfer the RESP to NBDB once they receive this year’s IQEE contribution (QC’s provincial grant) so I can fully leave Questrade.

Is there a reason you are leaving Questrade for Wealthsimple? I’m with Wealthsimple but was looking at opening a RRSP with Questrade, to take advantage of hold $US funds without transfer fees al the time.

To be completely honest, I’m tired of their support. I’ve had over 100 interactions with Questrade’s support regarding the QESI (the Quebec grant for the RESP). They’ve made blatant mistakes, stated easily verifiable untruths, made promises they didn’t keep, and so on. I even had to take them to the OBSI to get compensation, and even then, the issue still isn’t resolved after 4 years.

Nowadays, there are much better alternatives like NBDB or DISNAT, which offer free buying and selling for US and CA stocks and ETF: no ECN fees when buying and no fees at all when selling. This is a better deal than what Questrade offers.

The integration with Passiv is Questrade’s biggest selling point to me. You can set target portfolios and it automates purchases and rebalancing.

Passiv also supports a few other brokerages, including my personal favourite, IBKR. But I admit I don’t really like the idea of having such a service to automate my investing: I have a spreadsheet that does all the pruchasing/rebalancing math for me, so I only have to follow what is says.

The math is easy but I personally have no idea how to set up an API that supports 1 click purchasing.

I wasn’t aware that the purchasing feature was available for any other brokerages. I’ll have to see who they’ve added support for.

Oh, I didn’t create my own one-click purchasing solution, but I only trade once a month. So, it takes me less than 15 minutes each month, and I feel more in control, which I prefer. While I love technology, I always wonder what would happen if there were a bug and Passiv transmitted an incorrect order.
