Why do American evangelicals hate Muslims and constantly fear and hate-monger against Muslims in America?
You see this a lot on social media, and they always claim Muslims are here to bring Sharia law, which I think is hypocritical since these evangelicals also want to bring biblical/Christian law and influence into American politics.
US hegemony is deeply tied to oil and militarism (which are themselves deeply linked), so I think that was part of the reason the wealthy put so much funding into creating a politically-engaged Christian right that would “naturally” (from the perspective of people who believe in and promote social hierarchy) counter the dominant religion of the region, as well as promote their domestic economic aims. At least according to sources I’ve read in the past, most Christians in the US used to keep their piety and their religion relatively (though obviously not completely) separate before funding started to pour in to promote the so-called prosperity gospel.
*edit - also, my apologies, I’m not Muslim myself. I won’t post further if it’s not allowed.
I’m not Muslim but this popped up on my feed.
I read a book recently called “The kingdom, the power, and the glory” that sought to explain how evangelicals have gone so far from the teachings of Christ.
The author was more interested in how they support Trump but a lot of it carries over.
The short version is that their faith has been taken over by idolatry, and the idol is America. They believe the USA is God’s chosen country, and it is their Christian duty to protect it.
This leads to all kinds of paranoia and scapegoating. Not just Muslims. Gays, immigrants, anything that isn’t them. Fear works as a message, and those preachers are very practiced at stoking fear.
