How exactly is making America great again?
If you properly translate the phrase “make America great again”, what it’s actually saying is “make America white supremacists again”.
Brian Cranston said it perfectly:
“The ‘Make America Great Again’ – my comment is: Do you accept that that could possibly be construed as a racist remark?” Cranston said. “And most people, a lot of people go, ‘How could that be racist? Make America Great Again?’ I said, ‘So just ask yourself from, from an African American experience, when was it ever great in America for the African American? When was it great?’”
But let’s go another step. America has solicited and abused immigrants since it’s inception, so when had it ever been great for them?
Or better yet, the non college educated white men voting for Trump, when the fuck was it even great for them?!?
During the civil war, when millions of young Americans died so that our country could live up to it’s own constitution?
In the great depression when everyone except the ultra rich and corrupt got completely screwed?
Oh maybe when working Americans were getting their skulls broken for trying to form labor unions.
Maybe during Vietnam when thousands of young American boys were sent to fucking die for a corrupt old man’s policy decision?
Was it great when they stopped giving pensions and made you fund your own 401k?
Was it great when they started charging predatory student loans?
Was it great in 2008 when the rich few caused a recession and tanked everything you had saved for?
This country has NEVER been great except for the few that have the lack of morals and conscience to fully exploit their fellow man.
Yeah, I think greatness is not just a binary thing, it’s a wide spectrum. I’m from EU and from my outside look at the US in all those decades, it seemed to become greater all the time. Even if you look at earlier US history. There were always problems, but they got solved. It seemed to have peaked with Obama.
The slogan “Make America Great Again” implies all this progress wasn’t great and I think that’s just wrong. It’s a big blatant lie.
Human brains often romanticise the past. We forget the intensity of hardships and suffering quicker than the nice and fun moments.
I think they are trying to take advantage of that, as well as create a romantic fantasy past for people who weren’t around back then.
The reality is Americas past had been worse. It was evolving. Now they’re trampling that progress with backwards ideologies.
We need a general strike. We can’t let ICE turn into the Gestapo. We have the power to bring the economy to a halt, and that’s when we will finally be heard.
