Each time I was only missing 1 or 2 cards. My strategy:

• press the skip button as soon as the cards flip over
• tap the spot where the missing card was

If I got another chance and missed the card the first time, I tap a card that is beside my card, either clockwise or counterclockwise from my card.

I went with my gut when deciding CW / CCW. There may be a pattern I was unconsciously recognizing.
