Hey all, I have three quick announcements to make here regarding the community:
First off, I’ve set a post format to follow in the community sidebar. This will help in the future for music shared going forwards, helping future users of the community to be able to perform a search for their preferred genre, search for specific release years, or both. This only applies to song posts and not album posts. I’ve been trying to sort out how to make those work out both in regards to post formatting, as well as how to compile them like is being done with the playlist.
Second off, I’ve recently decided to ban two users for downvoting posts and will likely be doing so going forward. Reason for doing so is that, as a music community, people are making themselves vulnerable by sharing the music they enjoy. New users receiving downvotes for sharing music they enjoy can give off the message that their tastes aren’t welcome here, and I really want to prevent that from happening as this community should foster music of all genres. Moving forward, I’m likely going to be banning people whose only interactions with the community involve consistent downvotes and/or have a history of “blanket downvoting” in other communities based on global moderation history. However, before making this official, I would like to hear the thoughts of others in the community.
Last off, in regards to the ListenBrainz playlist, I’ve been noticing more and more as time goes on how many musicians and releases need to be added to the MusicBrainz database before having their music added to the playlist. I was thinking of creating a weekly event where we add releases and/or musicians to MusicBrainz, sharing what all we’ve added and done. Would love to also hear feedback on this and what y’all think.
Cheers!
So first off I wanna say thank you for running this community. It’s a challenge to get this sort of thing off the ground since members need to have this open mindset to enjoy the place since they’ll assuredly run into stuff they’d never would have put in their headphones otherwise. I’m rooting for Maple Music to endure!
Hailing from Beehaw I’m naturally in favour of an active approach towards a moderation that fosters respect and inclusion. Any form of shaming on the basis of musical taste is a big no no for me as well. I don’t know if I deserve to voice my opinion on the downvote button has Beehaw users don’t actually have one.
