    Prioritizing the public good over profit is in no way inherent to technical standards. The question is, who is collaborating to create a particular standard and why? In the corporate space, the fundamental reason is profit in the great majority of cases. Even in the governmental spaces of capitalist countries, the profit motive is not uncommonly the reason, because of regulatory capture by the capitalist class.
