    Ignore my brief pedantry: “90s??? I mean, it literally starts with them shouting 1989!” 😁

    My first experience with this song was going to the cinema to watch Do the Right Thing and being blasted into my seat by Rosie Pérez shaking it to this track as the opening title sequence.

      The album Fear Of A Black Planet from which this single comes, was released in 1990. The single, and obviously the recording were from. 1989.

      The sidebar in this /c specifically states:

      Submissions must be from the 90s (1990 - 1999) based on either recorded or release date. e.g. if it was recorded in 1999 but released in 2000, we’re not going to split hairs over that;
