Not going to happen in our lifetime.

It’s very good and noble to espouse veganism but we must be realistic. The meat industry is worth trillions. It isn’t just meat, it’s leather, dairy and all the byproducts of dead animals and fish. Whole cultures depend on it, many millions of people directly or indirectly.

For example, I watched Yellowstone and it brought home to me how the beef industry is so ingrained in culture (not just USA, it works for Brazil and Argentina to name but two) and this can be transferred to other industries such as sheep and fish. Metal workers, vehicle manufacturers, clothing, all sorts of farm equipment, wood workers, fencing companies and of course food companies.

And of then we have the whole side culture (interwoven with cattle farming )that surrounds horses. That often seems to get forgotten. That’s an industry that can’t collapse soon enough. But with billionaires breeding horses for sport it’ll take time.

The same can be said for oil, but that’s for another thread :-)

All these people will need alternative work or markets for their products.

One thing I missed out was pet food. Are we supposed to give up our cats (and dogs)? If we want to be true vegans we need to accept that we cannot have pets, otherwise we are just hypocrites. Again, a difficult problem to solve.

All we can do, is to try and set an example. Sadly there are those willfully ignorant, like my brother and sister in law, that will never see our way. He won’t even accept alcohol free beer, ‘It’s not real beer is it?’ FFS.

To paraphrase Tesco* ‘Every little helps’.

Sometimes I think the only solution would be a really powerful pandemic, dinosaur killer or alien invasion.

Have you actually watched it? It’s that sort of asinine comment that doesn’t help and makes you sound like one of ‘those’ vegans.

Storyboard aside there’s a huge insight to the cattle industry and everything connected to it.

The meat industry will not just give up and die, much as we’d like it to. There are too many people, cultures, and too much money invested.

You’re going to come to /c/vegan and complain about “those” vegans? You’re going to bloviate a wall of text after not reading the article in a community you’re not a part of because of your own unrecognized emotional needs, and fucking complain about “those vegans”? Kindly GTFO. Seriously, fuck right off.
