It’s the ocean we swim in, it’s all we know. We, in general, think we’re being different by swimming in a different direction but we’re still ultimately aquatic. We gotta grow legs and evolve.
I had a very similar realization in a smaller microcosm shortly after my son was born, I knew I wanted to parent differently than my parents had done but I didn’t know how and was just replicating what they did in different ways. It took that realization and subsequent reeducation/complete shift in view what parenting even is and how it can look.
