Hello, want to know how to fishbowl. Would love to hear recommendations on how to set up aquarium and what types of aquatic life can prosper in them. Have an unused 25 diameter, 15 height fishbowl. So wanted to use it for something pretty. I already am thinking about snails and/or shrimp as cleanup, and a few petite fishes(but which? Don’t know). Want to have a an ascending structure in some way to make it so a plant can be planted in the mountain. Low maintenance, no pump. Would love to hear anything on the topic. Is it even worth it in the end? Thanks lots!
Check out Serpa design on YouTube, he has a lot of great micro builds.
I’d keep it simple and do no fish, just shrimp + snails + a couple crabs + live plants.
I’ve tried a couple experiments with tiny aquariums in jars and bowls (0.5-1gal). The water parameters can be tricky to stabilize since the ecosystem is so small and any changes (like feeding food) can cause major swings. I would definitely advise plant heavy, and stick to small invertebrates like snails and shrimps and avoid fish.
Iirc, the problem with fishbowls is the small surface available for gas exchange. So I’d advise against fish in such setup, especially if you dont run a pump/airpump. Should be fine for invertebrates like shrimps, snails, crabs, but with heavy planting. Can’t wait to see your finished project!
I have an unused fishbowl lying around and your question sparked for me.
I’ll have to look in to doing something like you so it doesn’t just sit empty and collect dust.
