Yes, I think that the idea of having a cop hovering over my conversation, dictating who can talk and what they can say, is abhorrent. I admit it.

So I asked. Discussion happened. Some of it hot. Some of it useful. It was going places.

Then the mod of asklemmy bans the whole show.

The self-awareness of a paramecium, I tell you.

People want spaces about a certain topic. It makes sense that people then “censor” things that don’t fit said topic.

Even if that topic is “Be kind”.

Just as with “free speech” in real life, online there are also limitations. If you disagree with those limitations, you have the freedom to go elsewhere. If you find that nowhere fits the kind of place you want to be in, make your own.

Just as people don’t have to tolerate being around others mouthing off in their face, so to can they take steps to avoid/prevent that online.

In my opinion, people that can’t fathom that concept are the ones most in need of that oversight.

For the context “Do we need administrators and moderators to manage our conversations for us?”

    The modlog tells “Trolling/Sealioning”.

You should be able to show your posts and comments (they are still visible to you even though the post was removed). Without that, it’s difficult to give an opinion.

The AskLemmy post and many of the replies were phrased more like it was just bitching/moaning that all of Lemmy isn’t some freeze-peach free-for-all rather than any kind of conversation starter.

      OP, YDI.

I’m not gonna screencap the entire thread, but this gives you a picture since OP doesn’t feel like sharing and wants to be all “trust me, bro, I was CeNSORed!”

OP is also alt of @[email protected] who was instance-banned for bigotry (I don’t have the context for that one, that’s just what the admin wrote in the modlog), and brought some great hits to c/ShowerThoughts such as “99% of the people here are dumb as a box of rocks”

Bonus from their older, now-banned alt:

Oh. Oh. OP wants moderators and admins to leave filtering out CP to the individual users.

Enough said. Even 4chan doesn’t play around with that shit.

Hmm. I linked to the removed post (as it appears in my user history). And it is visible to me. Is it not visible to you?

The modlog says “trolling/sealioning” for my ban. It doesn’t say anything about the removal of the post. Or the removal of a some of my replies. So I can’t get a link there.

It’s not as it has been removed. You should have a “removed” green label next the the title.

        For us it’s

You can just post screenshots of your comments.

Yeah, he removed half my comments too. Just made a mess of the whole thing. (And by “he” I mean one of the mods of asklemmy, who’s actual id is hidden for… his protection or something. Goddamn this petty oompaloompa shit gets old.)

Usually it’s either the mods, ot the user being annoying people. Maybe you were too agitated and heated for a general purpose and casual community like asklemmy. Idk, I’m starting to make assumptions. I’d have to look at the modlog.

Edit: Done. The deleted comments have been purged, so I can’t tell. From the few remaining comments I’d say you do things like swear and get hostile… So I’m not sure who’s at fault here. Being overly confrontational isn’t accepted behaviour in AskLemmy. You’d need to find a different place if that’s what happened here.

Nope, didn’t swear. Didn’t get hostile. Didn’t get overly confrontational.

Just find a place where you fit. Not everyone is compatible. And people have a different idea of the tone of conversation they like. Especially if they do it for fun. That’s not anyone’s fault. If everyone is against you, I’d say it’s possible that everyone is wrong. Or you yourself are just at the wrong place. You’re making it way too easy for yourself by just blaming everyone else.

I honestly think that most of us are so used to being monitored and told what to do/say/think that we prefer it.

Moderation is normal for any group. Sometimes there’s explicit rules and active moderation. Sometimes, they’re implied, as with a basic friend group.

Going into a community and expecting absolute free speech is not reasonable.

Anyone can create their own instance at any time if they want.

Or most instances allow the creation of a community, subject to the instance rules.

People can say whatever they like inside of their own homes, it’s when they go into other people’s homes that they need to play by the rules of the homeowner, or else gtfo.

I haven’t clicked any links here or looked at the modlog, I was just responding to your comment in the general sense.

So you have no knowledge of the conversation but you see fit to offer accusations all the same.

It’s this level of awareness and maturity that I’ve come to expect from lemmy.

Judging from all of your comments here, I’d highly suggest that if you keep smelling shit everywhere you go, maybe you should check your shoes.

I seriously can’t fathom coming into a place, badmouthing everyone already there, and then being surprised when they react negatively.

Also, if you want a place without moderators overseeing everything with a fine toothed comb, there are countless *chan sites with minimal moderation (only removal of heinously illegal content). You might seriously have a better experience on one of them if you find lemmy stifling. There’s even a number of them now that allow users to make their own boards for whatever niche topic they want.

But I didn’t badmouth anybody. Not a one.

And it was a perfectly plausible hypothetical with lots of interesting ramifications to explore. Fascinating stuff.

But you people don’t do that. Or rather, the dominant 99% of you don’t do that.

And any sane person who spends any time here talking to you shallow clowns must be truly desperate. I speak from experience.
