1) Gather the files you will need:
ShadPS4 emulator software - https://shadps4.org/
Download link is at the top of the page.
Bloodborne game file - Obtain this somehow, assuming you purchased / own the game.
BB disc codes identify the specific game release, can be useful for searching.
CUSA00900 and CUSA03173 are disc codes for English versions.
Bloodborne 1.09 update file - Obtain this, assuming you own the game already.
Update file must match the BB game disc code.
CUSA00900 game needs CUSA00900 1.09 update pkg for example.
PS4 11.00 System Modules files - Obtain these, assuming you own a PS4
Could be found under Creator: Sony on the IA
11.00-sys-modules
2) Unzip or install ShadPS4 to a location with around 70GB free space for the games
3) Run ShadPS4 and set up a Games folder in that location with enough free space
4) Quit ShadPS4 and install System Modules needed (only 8-9 of the files)
Inside the ShadPS4 program directory, find the "user\sys_modules" directory and copy these files into it:
libSceFiber.sprx
libSceJpegEnc.sprx
libSceJson.sprx
libSceJson2.sprx
libSceLibcInternal.sprx
libSceNgs2.sprx
libSceRtc.sprx
libSceUlt.sprx
libSceDiscMap.sprx (optional / possibly deprecated / didn't use)
5) Install Bloodborne and the 1.09 update
File menu --> Install Packages --> Bloodborne .pkg file
Install the update after the game finishes installing. (game may or may not work without the update, I didn't test without)
The game is about 30GB in .pkg form and almost 32GB installed.
6) Install emulator patches for Bloodborne
Right-click the BB game listing in ShadPS4 and select "Cheats/Patches"
Click on the Patches tab of the Cheats / Patches window.
At the bottom, change the Repository: selection to shadPS4 and click "Download Cheats" button.
Now you should have a checklist of patches available, enable these:
Skip Intro (optional)
Disable Chromatic Abberation
Disable Motion Blur
Disable HTTP Requests
60 FPS (With Deltatime)
Force Enable Old Hunters DLC (optional)
Click the Save button to finish.
6-part2) Resolution patches are also available in the above selection
Choose the resolution you want to run the game at...
But beware that increasing beyond 720p-1080p can decrease stability.
Do it anyway if you want to, I'm using a 21:9 widescreen res.
7) Run the game and enjoy!!
PS4 dualshock controllers work natively in the emulator and game
PSA shadps4 0.7.1 removed the ability to install from a .pkg file so you will need:
- to use a legally owned copy of bloodborne
- or use shadps4 0.7.0 or earlier to install from .pkg. once installed then you can update to latest version of shadps4
Dang that’s too bad. I think I started with v0.60 and all is OK after updating to 0.80. Hopefully older revisions remain up for downloads.
Doing God’s work!
Now where’s my hunting hat!?
Awesome, thanks for taking the time to post this! How beefy does your PC need to be to run this at 60fps?
Honestly don’t know, mine is probably overkill for emulation as it was beefed up for VR games.
ShadPS4 site recommends at least 4 cpu cores, 16GB+ RAM, and a GPU with at least 8GB but preferably 12GB+ VRAM.
But if your PC isn’t super beefy you can always tweak around with the settings or run 720p resolution to make it faster.
Yea I probably won’t make this happen myself since my only PC is a lowly Surface Go 2, but I was wondering how much more powerful a PC would have to be to emulate PS4 games in the first place since I imagined it would have to be magnitudes stronger. These seem quite attainable in comparison, actually
Here you can see the game running in a widescreen resolution with performance stats peeking in from the left side. See the top graph showing framerate of the game relatively stable at 60 FPS. Also you can see the Hunter is covered in blood from defeating the Cleric Beast.
The game doesn’t run perfect for me, sometimes crazy glitches show up after death + respawn. People on github and other forums describe these crazy lines and shapes as a Vertex Explosion. Usually just exiting the game to the title screen and restarting can fix it.
Amazing, I’m going to try this ASAP! Anyone know how it’d run at 720p on Steam Deck? I’m sure my desktop is powerful enough.
NOTE: Vertex Explosion graphical glitches seem to happen more often when my character wears ANY other outfit than the Yharnam Hunter Set. After changing armor-outfits a few times I noticed that I was getting more of the graphical glitches, and having to exit to title screen and reload the game more frequently to fix it.
But when I put the Yharnam Hunter Set back on, the graphical glitches stayed away for the most part. This could be because the “hat” covers the character’s face mostly. I’ve read in past builds of ShadPS4 that doing any character customization to the face would cause these glitches so it was recommended not to edit the face. So I didn’t customize my character’s face, but I did get those glitches with all the other not YHS outfits fairly often.
Next I will try changing the character outfit to leave on the YHS “hat” (+mask) while using torso/hand/leg choices from other sets and see if that results in more glitches or the same relative stability. This should test the hypothesis that covering the character’s face helps stability.
ANOTHER NOTE: I forgot to mention in the instructions - Using ShadPS4 version 0.60
Update to my old post: All graphical glitches seem to go away if I equip my character with a face-covering head armor such as the Graveguard Mask or the Bone Ash Mask. Even after a vertex explosion glitch begins I could equip one of those two hats to banish it.
No graphic glitch fix mods required for the above fix. But unfortunately those 2 mask pieces aren’t available at the start of the game so you can just quit and reload to fix until then.
