      it ended production of BD-RW iirc. not BD-R. enphasis on the write portion (basically dont expect to burn your own disks over again)

      Games and movies don’t use writable discs. They are not discontinuing pressed discs.

        The writing is on the wall. They’ve stopped selling blu ray movies in many countries. From one of the articles I linked:

        “In mid-2023, Sony Pictures announced plans to stop selling Blu-ray films and series in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Similarly, Disney recently discontinued the sale of physical media in Australia. Adding to the trend, LG—one of the last manufacturers of Blu-ray players—also announced it would stop producing the devices earlier this year.”

      In of itself this doesn’t mean it is impossible for the PS6 to have a version with optical disc support. Sony may believe it makes more financial sense to contract this externally.
