A few hours after President Donald Trump announced that he would impose steep tariffs on Canada, hockey fans in the capital Ottawa booed the Star-Spangled Banner during a National Hockey League game against a visiting US team.
M8, let me tell you about the UEFA champions league, FIBA BCL, et al. It’s not a national team, playing the anthem is levels of deranged that shouldn’t exist in a civilised society. Don’t let yourself be numbed into thinking that’s normal, it Isn’t. That’s a 3rd reich levels of nationalism. Holy shit.
I actually do agree that it’s weird. But dude, it’s not fucking Nazi level. Don’t downplay the level of shit those guys were up to.
I’m not downplaying the Nazis, their indoctrination through similar tactics was pervasive. Mistakes of the past repeat in the future and all that cautioning. That’s how you breed a generation of young people that vote for orange turds or frustrated painters.

I don’t think you understood what I wrote…
Canada, as a civilised country, should refuse to play anthems for team sports…

As a Canadian I agree. It’s fucking weird and I’ve thought so since I was a child. Every Monday they’d play the anthem at schools too which I always thought was fucking weird.

Aging myself here - But we used to sing the anthem every morning at school. And when I was in catholic school (montreal in the 80s only had catholic or protestant schools, no secular board existed in public schooling) that was followed by the lord’s prayer.
I hate both now.
While I agree with the gist of what you’re saying, rioting because your favourite sportsball team lost is also deranged shit that shouldn’t exist in a civilized society. It might not be nationalism to a country but it sure as shit comes from the same place, maybe just with a little more gang mentality thrown in.
