Well Tycho Brahe dabbled in that astrology stuff and died of mercury poisoning. Then after, half his nose came off and Johannes Keppler said “fuck that astrology stuff”, popularized astronomy and now we have flying cars in space. True story.

Tycho’s nose came off because of steel though, not mercury (he was wounded in a duel).

Would the mercury get absorbed through the colon into their body?

From my understanding no, not elemental mercury. Other forms can be much worse though. The main danger with metallic, elemental mercury is inhaling mercury vapor, and even that would be incredibly hard to die from. (Though can have other effects at lower levels)

However the broken thermometer could introduce open wounds which could do something I’m not sure.

Here’s a guy swishing some around his mouth, he explains more about how the body generally can’t absorb elemental mercury. Not through skin or mucus membranes. https://youtu.be/DNpdMz0Cfv0

He’s been tested and has not shown to have unusually high levels of mercury in his blood.

That’s not elemental, metallic mercury. It’s methylmercury which is easily absorbed by the body and very toxic.

Yes it would. It would even get absorbed through normal skin.
