      Well, it’s probably a little like when people are singing Happy Birthday to you. Appreciate the positive impulse but embarrassed by the attention and unsure how to respond.

        He just seems very confused about what to make of this situation. Does he stay? Does he leave? The humans are clearly not marking their territory, so why are they barking at him?
