I think there are quite a few belief systems that have an explanation for how there could be a benevolent god and suffering in this world. But that doesn’t take away from your point that a lot of people use positions of power in religious institutions to commit heinous acts. It’s a bigger problem because faith systems make it harder to call out leaders.
