The Constitutional Court has 180 days to determine whether to reinstate Yoon or remove him from office.

South Korea’s National Assembly voted on Saturday to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his failed bid to impose martial law, to the delight of a huge crowd of anti-Yoon protesters outside the legislature.

The National Assembly passed the motion 204-85 in a floor vote. Yoon’s presidential powers and duties will be suspended after the copies of a document on the impeachment are delivered to him and to the Constitutional Court.

The court has up to 180 days to determine whether to dismiss Yoon as president or restore his powers. If he’s thrown out of office, a national election to choose his successor must be held within 60 days.

Hopefully he does get thrown out.

After last week’s motion was boycotted, I wonder what it was that convinced People Power leaders to allow their representatives to vote, this time?

      Sufficient horse trading I expect.

Last time was immediate and this time they’ve cajoled or bribed the PP leaders to get onboard.

Either that or the public unrest is bad enough that they’ve had their hands forced. Maybe some mix of the two.
