I myself mainly just rinse my face daily with soap & water after trimming the beard. Used to use a lotion too, but it’s been an unfortunate casualty of budgetary constraints. Besides, few shops around where I live have relevant products geared towards men, so I was just grabbing something generic (not that I go looking particularly often).
I went to a Deciem store, followed the routine they recommended. Have gone back occasionally and they’ve updated it etc.
There’s a cleanser and then stuff with funky names. But my skin does look better than it does without it.
What’d they recommend, if you don’t mind my asking, we don’t have any of their shops around here, but it’d probably be possible to cobble something similar together with equivalent products (or order online maybe?).
I’m not sure it would be helpful, everything but the cleanser is based on my skincare issues etc.
I tried using their routine builder but had better luck in person. Regardless, it might help:
I basically don’t have one. I shave with a safety razor and the shaving soaps have a higher fat content compared to can foam. Wash with a flannel and Lux soap once in a while in the shower I use Nivea Hydrating Day Cream.
I put extra seedoils on my waffles and apply snake oil from Unilever tot my face
Lather up with soap and brush, or cream ( my favorite cream is Derby), straight razor shave, followed by a generous splash of Clubman. Very traditional. The straight razor shave is the key, as it strips off the old skin cells.
I have used other aftershaves, but nothing beats the scent of Clubman or its refreshing feel. Baby soft skin.
Is the difference that significant between a straight razor and a safety razor? I’ve never tried a straight razor, just safety and electric ones. Electric can’t be compared for convenience, but I’ve always gotten cleaner shaves with regular ones. (though rn I’ve got a bit of beard, so running the trimmer instead)
