Yes I don’t like it. It spoils the finale of the book. It takes a while until it is clear what kind of monster it is. Already on the cover.

Then also the deus ex machina moment to save them is spoiled.

Only way to make it worse would be to put the diary on it with the name Tom Riddle written on it.

As someone who avoids trailers to not spoil movies, this is bad Imo.

I feel you. After the second book, I asked my mom to wrap the covers in brown paper before I read them.

      I agree.

The old cover a bit of spoiler too, but more ambiguous. We see Harry hanging on to some kind bird in front of some tunnel with snakes everywhere. Difference is, it doesn’t show the monster and it isn’t clear what’s going on with the bird.

      These have spoilers all over.

      2- monster and Phoenix

      3- Harry’s patronus

      4- we fight a dragon

6/7- these are okay, not too spoilery

      Other comments I have

      • overall I like the art style. The characters are a bit over stylized to my taste, but the rest is nice. 2, 4, 5, and 6 are pretty cool. 5 is number 1 for me.

      • the castle looks like a tiny castle/manor on top of a hill.

      • Harry doesn’t age after book 2. It makes him look out of place on book 7.

      • book 1 doesn’t get me excited for the series, it honestly is one of the weakest entries.

      • 7 has same issue as 1, for the finale it needs something to get me excited. Humans are clearly not the artists strong point. it needs something like the dragon from 4 or the fire from 6.

        Eh, we still have:

        • 6: Dumbledore and Harry get surrounded by zombies or something
        • 7: Harry and Voldemort face off in a forest.

When I’ve read 70% of a book and the scene on the cover hasn’t happened, I have a pretty good idea of what one of the climactic scenes is going to be…

That is true, I kind of gave them pass because none of the major plot was revealed. For 7, you know they’re going to fight, and weather its at a forest or lake isn’t a major point.

For 6, it shows a scene that I recall being early/mid way through. Sure it gives away we fight some kind of zombies, but its not like revealing the final boss of 2. A major spoiler could be to show Snape with the book or anyone falling out a window.

For 4, just showing a dragon is basically the same as 6 showing zombies. I decided due the tournament events being a secret, us knowing its a a dragon ahead of time is a more of a spoiler.

Ideally nothing would be given away, but the reality of these cover is you got to get kids interested in them. (With 0 expertise in the subject) I think 1 fails miserably, but 2-6 would do a great job of appealing to a variety of kids.
