Back in the day a common practice was the artist would draw whatever, and the writer would come up with what was said.
Im picturing in this case the writer was thinking “wtf do you want me to put here?”
I think that’s the case of a lot of these, to be honest.
I love it when the caption and the dialogue both state the obvious.

Another thing im often reminded of is a lot those guys were kids. Early twenties, a few war vets that were older. And some even younger.Most of those innuendos were definitely giggled over.
