To the point where it seems brigaded. The amount of “for a game no one cares about” is insane.

There is definitely a small (and loud) group of people who are very angry this game exists. I assume, based on history, that they’re nazis very angry about the presence of same-sex relationships and non-white (as well as gasp! Female characters) in this game. Be great if Valve actually policed its community, becauee this kind of bullshit really shouldn’t be okay.

Yeah leading up to the release the steam discussions were full of trolls crying “woke” this or “woke” that. Pathetic really.

I’m actually surprised (and happy) that discussions here are positive. In my experience, gamers (at least those discussing on the web) are the worst audience : they’re always angry, always complaining, only ever temporarily satisfied (which is kind of sad, given gaming is supposed to be about leisure and entertainment). I’m a developer and I’ve been offered several times to join the gaming industry, I always refused : it’s an underpaid, overworked job (comparatively to other industries in programming) where your audience hates you.

But indeed, it certainly won’t get any better in the era of political polarization.

Gaming communities online tend to be circle jerking echo chambers that either go full toxic shit-fit mode or full praise mode and shit on anyone with valid criticism. Very rarely do you find something in the middle. Something something misery and company and all that
