If you’re currently considering on buying a new Graphics Card (GPU) for your computer it’s advised to hold for now as:
We strongly believe you should not buy a graphics card right now. This is because we’re expecting the announcement of next gen GPUs in the first week of January 2025. This is when the consumer electronics show takes place in Las Vegas and during the show we expect NVIDIA to announce the Geforce RTX 50 series and AMD to announce RDNA 4 based GPUs. New graphics cards means the potential for new levels of performance at existing price points…and for improvements in price to performance at the very least and that could be anything from a minor gain to a modest gain based on the last couple of generations.
Again what this means is that customers who hold off on buying are more likely to have a larger window for better deals as the flood of newer GPUs should push the price of previous gen cards somewhat lower than the newest ones on the market.
Tim from Hardware Unboxed (in the primary vid I linked) does a great and thorough breakdown🤌 on the current price to performance comparisons that I would highly recommend watching whenever you get the chance to do so!~🫡
If you’re new to buying PC components please be advised in that I would highly recommend watching some GPU performance comparisons (such as GN’s 7900 GRE review and comparisons) as otherwise you might accidentally buy a new GPU but with the performance of the previous series for a higher cost :/

Yup I bought the 4070 right before the Supers came out. Could’ve saved a few tenners. Especially since the stuff I played pretty much would’ve run on my 1070Ti.
It’s never the right time to buy a GPU unless you really need one. Upgrading from Ampere to Lovelace is just really unnecessary and going for this next generation won’t really benefit the Lovelace crowd either. I thought getting the DLSS3 functions would really help out but most of the stuff I play doesn’t even support it anyway.
You’re right about it never being the right time to buy a card. The next gen of cards look good but the prices are starting to get even more ridiculous. It doesn’t hurt to go with an older card if it means you save some cash on the purchase and power usage. Most games look fine outside of Ultra settings anyway.
I was playing Hogwarts Legacy when I was in the market for the 4070. I finished the game on my 1070Ti, rebuilt my system, started the game again and I thought ‘yeah okay, I get 30-40 frames extra but it really doesn’t look that much better’. I thought maybe the VR on F1 23 would look better, it didn’t. Especially the AA on it is bad in VR no matter what GPU you use.
The only real difference is you can put some lows to high or ultra and the difference is hardly worth all that money.
