Summary

Asian American groups are preparing for potential deportations of undocumented Chinese nationals, particularly military-age men, under Trump’s proposed immigration policies.

Sources indicate Chinese nationals may be prioritized due to alleged national security concerns, reflecting broader anti-China sentiment.

Community organizations are creating multilingual resources, coordinating legal support, and educating families on their rights.

Trump’s rhetoric ties Chinese immigrants to fears of espionage, intensifying anxieties.

Advocates highlight the historical targeting of minority groups during national security crises and warn of significant impacts on vulnerable communities, urging solidarity and swift action.

One of Trump’s campaign promises was to increase legal immigration, along with deporting undocumented immigrants. This isn’t the 1930s. Stop doomscrolling and get some fresh air.

He wouldn’t have promised it if his voters weren’t OK with it. Not saying he’ll keep his word, but it gives insight to the state of the Republican party. Some people on Lemmy seem to think he’s literally Hitler. He’s not, even if he turns out to be just as bad. He’ll find his own way to fuck shit up, so don’t expect an exact repeat of history.

So let me get this straight, when you hear people say Trump is “literally Hitler” you think they’re saying he’s actually the original real-life Adolf Hitler, somehow still alive, clean shaven, wearing a Trump disguise? Is that what you’re saying right now?

You don’t think that people actually just mean history is repeating itself, and Trump could turn out to be just as bad? That’s not what you think people mean?

Read my comments from the beginning of this thread. I’m saying Trump isn’t going to attack the same people Hitler did. And I’m saying he’s not going to attack people in the same way Hitler did.

If you’re arguing that Trump won’t invade Poland, we’re in agreement.

But no one is arguing that he’s going to round up jews. And he’s already demonizing immigrants and political rivals in the same way Hitler did.

It almost seems like you’re moving the goal posts, but I’ll respond…

I’m not sure what you meant about rounding up jews, but Trump is pro-Israel and pro-zionism.

Trump isn’t demonizing immigrants in the same way as Hitler. Hitler didn’t rally against undocumented immigrants. And he wasn’t trying to deport jews, he was killing them. Are you saying you think Trump will make concentrations camps and start a genocide?

I’m honestly not sure what your position is here, but I’m doing my best to respond to the points I think you’re trying to make.

I’m not sure what you meant about rounding up jews

It honestly feels like you’re not even reading your own comments. Scroll up and re-read what YOU just said to me.

Trump isn’t demonizing immigrants in the same way as Hitler.

He is. He labels them rapists, drug dealers, “the enemy”, he is about to use them as an excuse to deploy the military domestically to round them up. You can guarantee that if you try to hide anyone in your house or otherwise try to impede the federal govt from deploying the military in your town, you will also be labeled as a criminal.

Are you saying you think Trump will make concentrations camps and start a genocide?

This is already in motion. Currently they are labeled as detention centers, but they will inevitably become slave camps (which is literally a protected case of actual slavery in the US), because they are privatized and slavery is lucrative. But their home countries will refuse to take them, the camps will become overpopulated, and each facility will be tasked with “taking care of the problem” without being given instructions as to how.

                  People are publicly decrying them.

But on the note of genocide, Rubio (Trump’s pick for secretary of state) has already stated plainly that he is against a ceasefire in Gaza. Isreal is going to eliminate every Palestinian they can, and the Trump administration will support it. And don’t play dumb and say “he said Hamas”, Isreal has so far not discriminated between soldiers and literal children, and they’re not about to start.

I find it ironic how you act like you know what Lemmy users believe, but then appear to be completely oblivious of basic current events. It honestly feels like I’m talking to someone who gets really opinionated when they’re high, not even able to keep up with what YOU just said let alone what others are telling you.

I’m still not sure if you think Trump is going to go after jews. If sounds like you do, but in the same post you complain about him supporting Isreal. Which is it?

I didn’t say Trump isn’t dehumanizing immigrants. I said Trump isn’t doing it in the same way Hitler did. That’s been my point this entire time.

The rest of your post is the same speculation I’ve been seeing so much of on Lemmy in the past couple weeks. Stop doomscrolling and go touch some grass.

There’s some nuance to what you just said that you’re ignoring.

When Trump talks about legal immigration, he literally uses the words “from the right places.” He’s not talking legal immigration from Mexico. He’s talking from Sweden, Finland, Germany, etc. I’ll let you guess what those three countries have in common.

Nuance? I’m willing to bet you haven’t listened to any of his campaign speeches, which makes that an assumption. No nuance involved.

Trump has been talking about Chinese immigrants. This thread is about a Chinese Immigrant.

          https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/07/us/politics/trump-immigrants-nice-countries.html

He said out loud that he wants immigration from “nice” places like Denmark, Norway, and Switzerland. He laments immigration from Asia (unclear where in Asia he means). He might also talk about Chinese immigrants, but he is taking a strong anti-China stance with the economy. It’ll be “interesting” to see how he swings with respect to normal Chinese workers in the US versus how he treats the country of China and immigration in general.

This purity testing is why I don’t call myself a Democrat, liberal, or leftist. Anyone who isn’t sufficiently in line with the party beliefs is accused of being the enemy. I’m not a Republican or a conservative, but I know a few and they don’t fit the stereotypes I hear from people here on Lemmy and IRL. Maybe the dems could win an election if they came back to reality.

Because you don’t align with those beliefs. You are not a Democrat, liberal or leftist. And what? You expect those of us who are to call you that out of some misguided sense of charity? I’d suggest having the courage to own your own beliefs.

What beliefs are your referring to, exactly? From my perspective, the main thing I disagree with them about is the purity testing.

I’m not sure you understand what “purity testing” means. Do you think Trump supporters don’t evaluate alignment with their beliefs?

You seem confused. My suggestion is to not try to find the answers you seek in this venue. You should go socialize and interact with actual people in person. In that way you can find acceptance and belonging and a safe way to discuss these things.

I really don’t imagine this type of interaction is good for your mental health. That’s true for most of us, but you show all the signs of taking it far too seriously for your own good. I sincerely hope you find what you are looking for.
