I was dumb and was hoping he couldn’t win. I want to get a passport. I have an old one I could renew, but it has my dead name and old gender marker. Has anyone renewed their passport after a name change gender marker? Or should I just apply for a new one in person?
You might want to consider updating your dead name and gender once you’re in a safer country is my personal recommendation

Yes, I renewed my US passport when I had my name changed and was able to update my gender marker as well. Nothing special is required for the gender marker, you can just choose which one you want. I recommend not using the X marker since it makes air travel difficult. I did not find it that difficult of a process, just a matter of filling out the forms and providing the required documentation. I suggest providing a copy of your court order for the name change in addition to the official copy you mail in, so they won’t keep the original.

I renewed mine last week. It’s easier to renew if your old one is not expired. They just need a name change court order, gender marker is part of the renewal. I would get it done before he takes power.
