There’s no “default” per se aside from the regular lemmy interface you see on literature.cafe. All of them should work fine (maybe even faster than the main lemmy front end)

There unfortunately isn’t a way to force the UI to be one of those ones by default for literature.cafe if that’s what you’re asking. Doing so would break federation.

You will see the same content across each interface with just some slightly different features and UI language, it’s a matter of preference and choice which I think is always good. if you wanna try alexandrite, you can use a.literature.cafe and it will use it no problem (and if there is any problem contact me!). I liked photon but it is just far too glitchy and unstable right now so I unfortunately had to remove it.

Hi! The biggest glitchiness I had was trying to get it to work in a docker container file to use it to attach via traefik. Probably not an issue on your end, but it could be. I dunno. My biggest issue after getting it to work though was it wasn’t displaying local communities

Sorry for triple reply, but I will say that if you wanted to DM me your matrix to chat about it we totally can. I would love to get it to work tbh, it’s seriously one of my favorite front ends thus far. You are really really freaking good at UI design.

Isn’t the UI separate from the backend and run as a separate process? I haven’t done this nor seen anyone else do this yet so this is just an educated guess, but I believe this means that anything the standard lemmy-ui can do can be done by calling the APIs directly, ergo you can host a custom frontend on https://literature.cafe without breaking federation. But I guess that doing that would need extra work for you every time you want to upgrade because now you can’t use the standard docker image?

I mostly use mobile apps so the web frontend does not make a difference to me. I actually like the default one for my desktop. 🙂

More choice is good which is the reason why the UI are the focus. But alongside that I do use a rather custom setup so the traffic funnels thru traefik so I can automate my certificates and make things easier to install new web blocks on different ports and subdomains, I don’t wanna tinker with that and risk breaking federation. I also do like the default one as well, there’s some quirks I wish were different though but things will change in time.
