*The WID has reached out with a crucial update regarding the ongoing water supply situation.
Despite our collective efforts, the severe drought conditions that have been impacting our region remain unchanged. The Bow River’s water levels are still at a concerning low flow stage, and the WID is still bound by the Government of Alberta regulations, resulting in restricted water usage for their stakeholders and irrigators.
To fulfill our statutory obligations, the WID is left with no choice but to draw water from our water storage reservoirs. Unfortunately, this means that a drawdown of the Chestermere Reservoir is becoming increasingly imminent.
We would like to remind you that the drawdown of the Chestermere Reservoir will commence as early as August 11, 2023. The WID’s water supply outlook indicates that they may need to draw no more than 12 inches from the reservoir between August 11 and August 18. However, please be assured that their intention is to refill the Chestermere Reservoir as soon as water availability and precipitation allow.
The City of Chestermere and WID remains committed to monitoring the situation and kindly request residents take all steps to prioritize water conservation measures, especially when using water outdoors.*
