A bit of local news rather than Scotland wide, but it highlights just how inept Edinburgh City Council is. Labour/Tory/LD run btw despite SNP having most seats. Anyway, I miss the farm, an easy afternoon out with the kids here and a valuable addition to Gorgie.

Does it? The people who were going to run it have decided to hand the keys back. Is that really the council’s fault?

Why did the council let this run on so long? It has been quite obvious they have been incompetent for some time. It doesn’t take 18m to write a report. Why were they handed keys in the first place? Where’s the transparency?

Yes. It’s not re-opened. It’s been closed for ages. It got partly burnt down the other week. Yes, it is obvious that they are incompetent

They aren’t though, are they? They may not do everything the way you want (although your bringing party affiliation into makes your motives seem pretty transparent) but Edinburgh the City generally runs very well - services are provided, children learn, roads are mended, grass is cut, buses run, traffic is managed, etc, etc.

Is it perfect? Of course not. Is it “incompetent”? Not by any stretch of the imagination.

I’m only amazed you resisted lobbing in a “Clowncil” reference.

As for Gorgie Farm it’s a shame it’s not open, but unless you’ve been privvy to the detailed ins and outs of the process, I’d suggest you are, at best, operating from a position of limited knowledge.

Very likely it’s down to money, and councils are generally skint - not least because of the long freeze (imposed by Holyrood) on their ability to increase tax revenue.

ECC are by no means the only incompetent council, in fact most are: a lack of public engagement combined with cash starvation and Holyrood essentially rendering them little more than stewards of their limited realm, means that most if not all are incompetent in Scotland. I would almost wholly rip them up in an independent Scotland and empower community councils instead, and devolve Holyrood’s powers further.

I’m not sure why you wish to defend ECC so hard but the evidence is undeniable here. Yes, they manage plenty of other things despite their funding challenges, and mostly well. But they have clearly failed to manage this community owned asset and as such I label them incompetent.

So, they managed most things fine, but because a community farm hasn’t reopened the whole council is incompetent. Ok then.
