I was just wondering, since I only read books that I physically possess.
eBooks aren’t my thing.
Do you read rips or buy the ebook/book officially?
I used to have a gigantic collection of books. Several walls’ worth of shelves. Then I moved to another country. Then another. Then another continent.
With each move my collection shrunk until I decided to give up on physical copies. I still have some art books and albums, but for text I stick to DRM-free digital files, for comics - all digital (with a few graphic novel exceptions). Same for music and video - ripped it all into my own server.
Transition took forever and I do miss the smell of paper sometimes, but I no longer have to give away media or look for places based on ability to accommodate my collections.
That’s true.
My main reason for only buying and reading physical books, is that it’s the only medium that I still use in it’s physical, analogue form.
Everything else I have is digital, except my books. I like that I can lend them out

Prefer digital copy, using my e-reader for them. Only buy a few physical copies and only of books I have already read
Kindle. Physical is a hassle to read, hassle to move and a hassle to get rid of.
Hassle to move and hassle to get rid off I can understand, but why do you feel like it’s a hassle to read?
I read on my side a fair bit in bed, and half the book seems to always be in the way haha
Hahahahahaha now I can relate! I used to do that as well.
You start on the correct page. All’s is good. Next page tho…either you awkwardly hold up the book in an uncomfortable way, or you roll to the otherside to be able to read comfortable. Rinse and repeat until you’re so annoyed that you just stop reading.
Prefer digital because:
- Always available on device (iPhone and soon eReader)
- Storage (not having to carry books but just one smaller device with all books available)
- Cheaper (when you know my instance, you’ll understand)
However, I still have some physical books to switch it up. Sometimes getting tired of always having a screen, so I’ll read a physical book.
Currently switching it up between “Bad Blood” digital and “Before Coffee Gets Cold” physical.

Before the coffee gets cold is about a small Japanese cafe that has a legend. The legend goes that you can go back in time in the cafe but with that legend also comes risks. You have to return to the present before the coffee you got served gets cold.
You follow four visitors of the cafe, each have their own story.
I really recommend it, it’s a cozy and warming read but also a sad one in a good way.
It is currently an trilogy

- Before coffee gets cold: tales from the cafe
- Before your memory fades
However fourth one on its way
- Before we say good bye
They’re all fairly short, about 220 pages each.

I prefer physical books but as of late I have to travel a lot so I, uhm, don’t read books anymore. It’s quite unfortunate yet digital ones are not my cup of tea
