Canada’s government on Monday announced it is imposing a 100% tariff on imports of Chinese-made electric vehicles that matches U.S. tariffs and follows similar plans announced by the European Commission.

    I would assume they do believe the cars are subsidized or otherwise unfairly priced. But I wouldn’t rule out pressure from US diplomacy encouraged by donations from the American auto industry.

      You should rule out donations, Canada’s federal donation rules are pretty strict.

          I’m not so sure about that. Federal donation rules are pretty strict. Now, in the provinces and the states this is a totally different story.
