I’m on the search for a cost effective SOHO router with solid Wireguard support. The main purpose is to allow my parents to access my local media share and also share my streaming accounts. I’ve rolled with pFSense/OPNSense the last several years and I’m think that may be too complicated to also setup at their home. I want something they can effectively unplug/plugin when they need to reset it or, at the worst, go to a simple web interface to make a change that I can guide over the phone.

I’m currently looking at the Asus AX86/88U devices, but I’m open to whatever would work the best.

I’m quite happy using GL.iNet’s Beryl AX MT-3000 as a WireGuard server and client.

Neat little device. I haven’t seent these before. Definitely on the upper end of what I would like to spend, but an interesting (almost cute) option.

I think my vote is going to OPNsense running on an OptiPlex 7050 small form factor. Just throw a dual port half height network card and you’ve got a pretty decent routing solution.

Glad you brought this up. I actually found a low spec’d (pentium g5400, I think) m720q that might do the trick.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at it. It’s been a while since I looked at it, but IIRC openwrt UI is pretty minimal.
