    Feels like the actual contractors I see around - plumbers, electricians - use utility vans. There’s a handyman around here that I’ve seen with a fully kitted out van workshop (think vanlife setup, but a wood shop inside). The people driving around American “light” trucks don’t seem to actually be using them for working. (USA - West coast)

      Precisely. Now that I am back I nEurope. A kitted out van is the de facto vehicle of trades. It’s been a few years since I moved from the US. So perhaps the trades have now gotten the memo.

      As I say, I see vanishingly few cases where a truck is better than a van for a trades person or the job site. And of course even less so for a layman.
