Mikey Rukus addresses new AEW Collision theme.

Fans may have noticed that AEW Collision had a new opening theme song for the July 20th episode. The theme was an in-house anthem as opposed to “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” by Elton John, which had been used since the show premiered in June 2023.

On social media, AEW music producer Mikey Rukus wrote,“Hey guys. Its ok. I knew it would be universally hated. Theres no such thing as an upgrade from Elton. Change is inevitable. We tried something different with the college/gogo cadence. I knew many would t get it. Again, it’s ok. I’m happy with it, my team is happy with it. It’s not changing. 🫡”

I’m surprised they used Saturday Night as long as they did. I know Tony has deep pockets, but Elton John songs can’t be cheap.

I assumed he worked out some kinda long-term thing, maybe with WB’s help, for the rights.

But TK is also kinda pretty fucking stupid with his money sooo~

The Nickelback version was more appropriate for a wrestling show anyway.

It absolutely is and I love that song since Spider-Man came out but we’re gonna technicality this one: It’s not a Nickleback song. It’s credited as “Chad Kroeger ft. Josey Scott” and “serves as Kroeger’s debut solo release.” The other musical parts were performed by themselves, or by others outside Nickleback (iirc). (edit: possibly outside Saliva as well, not sure lol)

Nothing to do with Nickleback officially except having Chad Kroeger sing it, so it gets a pass!

You just don’t get it, I knew everybody would hate it, but I love it, it’s not changing… just assholey from where I’m at. I mean I get it, he created it, he’s the music director and he has some say on the music. He created something he likes and is upset people don’t, but he could have just ignored it and let the X-crazies stew.

There’s lots of things I’d have chosen over Elton John and I don’t mind it needing to be changed, but I really don’t get with how friendly the company is with certain reporters they didn’t leak this was going to happen a month ago, to get the core audience ready for the sudden change.

    Edit: Clarity
