Ultimo Guerrero explained the mask issues that took place on Collision.
The CMLL legend took to Facebook to explain why he was constantly adjusting his mask, which could be seen throughout the match. Guerrero wrote that he arrived at the building not knowing that he needed to wear a mask, as he had lost it back in 2014. A member of AEW’s staff ended up having to make him a mask in under an hour. Guerrero praised the staff member and said he respected that person for their hard work.
What I want to know is why did he need to wear a mask?? We know his face, he lost a mask v mask match a decade ago, the mask ‘thing’ isn’t in place here, did AEW just go "Ah fuck we forgot you’re ugly go see the seamstress down the hall and she’ll make you a mask real quick!’
I think just so Okada could rip it off. I guess it makes sense to do it to a luchadore that already lost his mask, but then it doesn’t make any sense because he already lost his mask! Okada is already an established heel so really it was kinda pointless. Kudos to Ultimo for wrestling with a mask on with no notice, and the costume crew getting that mask put together so fast!

I know, right? It’s just such a weird situation all around. Why was AEW promoting him masked, and building the match around the mask? And couldn’t anyone in CMLL tip them off to it, instead of just sending them a bunch of footage of him masked?
Worst thing is the footage they showed of him used both masked and unmasked footage lmao.
I think Montagge got the idea, they probably wanted some cheap heat for Okada by having him rip a mask off and UG made sense as he’s unmasked, and quite often wears his mask anyway when doing intl shows so they figured eh he’ll be ok with it and it’ll work out!
…till it didn’t cause they didn’t communicate with CMLL/UG lmao
