I was about 9 years old when this came out and hit PPV on satellite. We had one of those FTA boxes which meant free PPV. I was stoked to watch this film cause guns and explosions and stuff… Welp, that opening sequence was genuinely horrifying and I was instantly nauseated by the suffering. I’ll never forget it. It took me over a decade to be able to attempt to watch the film again as every thought of it invoked disgust and nausea. I suppose it hit the mark, eh? Great film but I doubt I’ll ever watch it again. It still sickens me, especially considering the state of geopolitics. No thanks…
Schindler’s List is that way for me too. It’s an absolutely incredible film, and I watch it like once a decade when I work up the will to stomach the horror and awfulness.
In SPR, for me personally the opening scene doesn’t bother me too much now, but I absolutely cannot watch the knife scene.
