Five women and one man are dead following a man's stabbing spree at a Bondi Junction shopping centre. The attacker, who is believed to have acted alone, has been shot dead by a lone police officer.

The condition of the victims hasn’t been released yet. 7 people have been stabbed. The psycho who stabbed them has been shot and killed by police

      Five dead according to police, six dead according to ambulance. That may include the attacker himself.

        I watched the press release the ABC posted, and the police said that 5 were dead “as a result of his actions”, so I’d take that to mean their tally excluded him

            @maniacalmanicmania @Baku “As a result of his actions” is worded in a deliberately vague way. It could mean one of two things.

            Either they’re saying all five people (including the attacker, who was shot by a police officer) are dead because of the attacker’s actions.

            Or they’re saying he stabbed five people.

              But ambulance said 6. So it must be 5 victims plus the perpetrator.

                @sqgl There’s a reason why they’re being deliberately vague at this stage.

                In a similar situation in 2016, one man (the attacker) was killed and four people were injured, after an attacker carried a knife around Westfield Hornsby: https://www.news.com.au/national/nsw-act/crime/police-shoot-and-kill-knifeman-at-westfield-hornsby/news-story/09e98074a9f0534020686a76ebee783c

                After the official investigation, it turned out the four bystanders who were injured were accidentally struck by police bullets that ricocheted, rather than the attacker himself.

                I’m definitely not saying that’s the case this time, but they’re likely to be vague until they can rule something like that out.

                  The knife man survived in that article. A good outcome overall perhaps however I don’t understand why cops didn’t have their tasers drawn. Are they only for 95 year old women on walking frames in nursing homes?

    Good on all those stores and staff that helped protect people, hide them and keep them safe.

    Sadly, now they’re going to be closed while the investigation goes on. Hope they get some support.

      Bondi junction is mainly chain shops. It wasn’t owners helping, I’d imagine, but the people working there. Good on them is right. It must have been terrifying. I know that it’s almost designed to be hard to leave, there, which won’t have helped.

    The most description I’ve heard is he had a green and gold shirt

    Also was he going full kit wanker?

    Hope it results in easier access to free mental health programmes. Like how Port Arthur led to the expensive (and politically brave) gun buyback scheme.

      That’d be ideal but you know that the perpetrator isn’t white the LNP is going to flog their heritage as the cause. Particularly as their main line of attack at the moment is “Labor is soft on migration”

        And if it is a white perpetrator who targeted non-whites then Libs will insist it is mental illness rather than white supremacy indoctrination.

        It is pretty white in Bondi Junction though. I doubt a white supremacist terrorist could have found so many victims so quickly.
