So Pixel phones don’t support DP alt mode via USB-C, and Samsung phones don’t support Chromecast. Are they holding back these features for when they run out of ideas to sell new phones? I can’t think of any technical reason why we can’t have both.

Well, yes, it’s a business decision. Google wanted to push their Chromecast devices so they made them use proprietary Google Cast protocol and removed Miracast from Android (both phones and TVs). They later added Chromecast/Google Cast to Android TV but it is still not supported on other platforms. Samsung on the other hand had their own TVs which don’t use Android TV so they added Miracast back to their phones and removed Chromecast so that their consumers would buy Samsung TVs.

draft - I feel like it would be bigger news if google photos supported miracast. I like chrome cast but sometimes tvs don’t have google cast built in l. I like the privacy of being able to cast individual google photos / videos without having to cast my entire screen which feels kinda like an invasion of privacy.

The given password #00rtsp00 does not work for Galaxy Note 10 plus; #00sv00 does work, but it lacks the Chromecast option.

Worked on my A71, but didn’t ask for the password to get to the settings screen. Enabling Chromecast, then exiting/entering Smart View brought my chromecst devices to the list.

On that settings screen, there’s an “Advanced” option, which did ask for a password, but the one in the article didn’t work.
