Metallica in the 80s was pretty much the quintessential thrash band and the band that every other band was looking to. Black album and everything after that was mostly crap, yes, but that is no reason to rewrite history - those first 4 albums basically defined thrash metal and still holds up.

Metallica was absolutely a thrash band in the 80s. There’s also no such thing as “Trash” metal unless you’re referring to bands you don’t like lol
