Not much new here to be honest. Main takeaways:

  • “MrTrash” was the first player to successfully fly through a jump point in the tech preview server
  • they managed to handle 350 player shard (replication layer connected to two servers)
  • they’re working on a finalized roadmap to 1.0
  • confirmation that Rich Tyrer took over as Senior Game Director responsible for both Squadron 42 and Star Citizen
  • Todd Pappy returned to US due to family reasons
  • main dev studios will be Manchester, Austin and Montreal
  • LA office will move towards support role (marketing, finance, legal and HR)
  • more tech preview tests coming (including servers dedicated to a single planet and moons, specific landing zones or key locations)

Here’s hoping for a successful 3.23 patch to set the pace nicely for the rest of the year. Looking forward to seeing what they have in mind with the roadmap to 1.0 as well. Obviously we won’t be getting 100 star systems but I wonder what the plan is.

100 star systems are useless if shard are limited to even 1k player. The better way i think is to make RL with SM dynamic work well before expanding the verse.

Completely agree. It seems like they are on the cusp of that already but we’ll have to see. Hopefully it’s not too far away given that static meshing seems to be working in evocati.

Yeah, it’s good we’re finally seeing some momentum. Hopefully it’s the start of the mythical floodgates opening.

Not gonna lie, after being down/apathetic towards the project for a while all the recent developments slowly rebuild my trust - even if I don’t like everything they’re doing at least there are signs of life we’ve been missing for a good while now. I’m cautiously optimistic.
