Well, dads—it’s official, I’m old. Strained my back lifting the glass table top on Saturday. Finally had to go to urgent care today because the pain is so bad. No activity or “activity” for at least 7 days.

When did I get this old?

A few months ago, my elder dad took me aside and regaled me with his latest medical issues. Many of them were self-inflicted. When he finished, he put down his drink and looked at me and said, “If I had known how I’d feel right now, I’d have done a lot more to keep myself healthy 20 years ago.”

I don’t blame him, really. 20 years ago they were members of a gym and worked out when they could, but paid no attention to diet. Even though I’ve educated them in the past they still don’t… and instead quoted me the privilege of being happy. He’s finally beginning to understand and it’s too late.

We don’t have the shortcomings of ignorance. This was your warning sign. I had a similar one 10 years ago. Get started now.

Random injuries are are he name of the game after like 35yo.

Tweaked my knee so bad back in January that I couldn’t sleep it hurt so bad. Ended up in physical therapy for months. Cause of injury? Literally just going up the stairs.

Today, lifting logs and splitting firewood, for hours. No big deal.

Happens to the best of us.

    Hope you feel better.
