Prosecutors in New Mexico want more accountability for the 2021 death of a cinematographer who was fatally shot by actor Alec Baldwin during a rehearsal for the Western film “Rust.”

Before Baldwin’s case progresses, the armorer on the set will be tried on charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence. Jury selection in Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s trial starts Wednesday in Santa Fe.

Gutierrez-Reed has pleaded not guilty to the charges and maintains she’s not directly to blame for Halyna Hutchins’ death. Baldwin also has pleaded not guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in a separate case.

Prosecutors say they’ll present evidence that Gutierrez-Reed loaded a live round into the gun that killed Hutchins after unknowingly bringing live ammunition onto a set where it was expressly prohibited. They contend the armorer missed multiple opportunities to ensure safety on the movie set.

“I’m not directly to blame! I was just paid to be the gun handler and expert on staff, and had the responsibility to make sure live ammo was nowhere near set!”

Holy fuck, people are fucking pathetic at taking responsibility… Both of those fucking clowns deserve to rot for completely failing at their jobs and getting someone killed. Manslaughter is correct.

Wasn’t she also shooting off live rounds with stone of the crew during downtime?

Manslaughter or negligent homicide is absolutely appropriate.

Baldwin should not be pointing guns at people and pulling the trigger, but his fatal actions could have only gone the way they did because she did not ensure that the gun was safe.

Baldwin was also in a high enough position to be able to put his foot down about safety, and did the exact opposite. It’d normally be OK to point guns at people on set, because it’d be a prop gun incompatible with real ammo, and real ammo would be miles away. This was a kind of set that NEEDED heightened safety, because revolvers are very hard to fake in movies. They both did the exact opposite.

He also demonstrated a distinct lack of gun safety knowledge, knowledge other actors say is required for union work. He should’ve checked the gun himself the second it hit his hand. He bares just as much blame, IMO.

They are both 100% responsible because they both had many opportunities to go a different route.
