What is that?
Wheel weights. Their wheels will be unbalanced, meaning their steering will vibrate at certain speeds, depending on what the new balance is.
It’s not unsafe per se, at least not primarily. It’s annoying as fuck tho.
Is that literally why they exist? To fuck with people?
They are used to balance tires, but only one or a few in the right locations.
Aaaah

Haha no, wheels and tires can’t be produced balanced consistently. So after the tire is put on the wheel, you put those weights on to balance them.
Nope. If you walk past cars you will often see this.
My car has a few one one of the rims
Holy shit my brother I had seen these things for years, thrown in the ground and always figured they had something to do with cars, only didn’t know WHAT. you sir have scratched that mental itch and my brain lobes are forever thankful
Hahaha no worries!
Oh shit. I had an old beater that would shake apart at certain rpms. It was a hand me down that I drove into the ground and didn’t spend money on, so I never got it inspected. Didn’t know the solution was so easy.
You could randomly stick weights on it and slowly figure out of if you really wanted to.
To balance a tire properly you need a bubble balancer.
I got a flat tire and needed to replace the tires. Since I was going to get new tires soon anyway my quick replacement was a used tire different from my others.
My car was unbalanced and it felt so weird, had to keep checking if I got another flat because the vibration feeling was so off.
Weights, to mess with the balance of the wheel
Stick on tire weights. They’re used to balance the weight of a tire, or in this case to massively un-balance a tire.
/c/fuckcars would love this
[email protected] exists!
Ohhh the syntax for tagging subs is an exclamation point?
Yep, and I the web UI it also autocompletes so much easier. Not sure about all the apps though
Doesn’t auto complete on Liftoff.
On connect it renders your link excluding the exclamation mark, but the other one includes it as a part of the link… Odd

It’s their fault for parking illegally.
Yeah, sounds like a YOU issue tbh…
I’ve been spending too much time on noncredibledefense, I thought they were ERA blocks at first glance.
Well, they can be… just not very good ERA blocks…
Buy a fuck load of wheel weights here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/233731184483
Nice try, eBay wheel weight merchant.
Remove tire from rim, place shot put in tire and remount, victory.
For a second I thought they were lithium batteries, then we’d have an attempted murder charge on our hands lol
Anyone getting the urge to steal these and sell them
Found Jesus?
Mess up their handling so they lose control and hit somebody? This is totally f*cked up.
Not sure if you’re trying to be funny, but in case someone thinks you are being serious_ Unbalanced tyres will not cause someone to lose control. They’ll get a little vibration feedback through the steering wheel, which may even be felt by passengers.
This is an extremely unlikely outcome, but no reasonable person would be tampering with other people’s cars after seeing a meme on lemmy anyway. We’re just telling jokes here.
Did you not read the name of this community?

Not sure if source is legit, but seems like 1 pound of weights is the limit for on road use.
Can’t even tell wtf I’m looking at. Terrible meme
Defenition of a skill issue.
They didn’t know what it was, that isn’t a skill issue, just good old fashioned ignorance.
Meanwhile, you failed to spell “definition” correctly, which is a skill issue.
Whoosh
I disagree with them about it being terrible too; but I think it’s an issue of ignorance, not skill. I didn’t know what it was either, but thankfully the kind people up at the top comments answered an asker! ^^
Git gud at mémé understandment, pleb.
Sounds like a you problem, bud.
The top picture is a car wheel with far too many wheel weights. The bottom is a large amount of wheel weights. They’re used to balance wheels which helps make the ride smooth.
You could have googled it in less words
What words would someone search if they had no idea what was in the image?
https://www.google.com/search?q=metal+squares+on+car+wheel
“metal squares on car wheel” does it right away.
I mean, the person is wrong, but I don’t know how one would Google it. Maybe that Google Pixel feature? Most people don’t have it though.
Easier to wait for a couple helpful comments. On my phone with the poor resolution of the image, I didn’t realize the top pic was those same weights on the tire, and didn’t understand that until another user pointed it out. Just thought the pic was of a tire without weights.
