Is that right? According to my sidebar we don’t and I think we need to fix that if we want to make this community grow. We might be able to contact the instance admin and have some people installed, but how do we do this fairly? Election via upvote, and we send the URL to the admins with the request maybe? Lets talk about this since this is our community after all.

If anyone is on the discord for /r/sq, I’ve seen AKittyCat pretty active there at least during the early week-or-two of the Reddit protests, perhaps a “Hey wanna come pay attention or give someone else mod privileges” message is in order.

I opened up a line of communication, I get where you’re coming from, but managing a community is a lot of work and I can easily see things falling to the wayside compared to R/SQ. We just need to see how and where we go from here.

AKittyCat responded, and it appears we do not have active moderators at this time. I’ve reached out to Kbin admin about this and hope to have a response soon.

That being said I don’t know what will happen here, and we may have to start the discussion to move from here to a new community if we can’t get some people in charge.

I agree with you on pretty much everything, but I think creating a new magazine/sub/whatever should be at the bottom of our list of options.

In my opinion, the best thing to do is get the mods back or find new ones and then do an m/SC grand re-opening of sorts. Then, we all boost a new welcome message so the nearly 800 users subbed here see it in their timeline and hopefully make their way over here.

Also, shout out to you for getting in touch with the mods. Love the initiative lol.

At least it’s a pretty small community capable of self governing (so far; since the Fediverse is pretty friendly compared to Reddit) but it’s nice to know that a member of the mod team is close by in case anything comes up that necessitates modding. :)

Yes we’ve been very lucky that no one has tried to disrupt the space here.

That being said let’s look at a time line

6 days ago I ask if there are any mods on here because they didn’t show up on the sidebar and I was told we have 2 and they are around.

5 days ago Still no mod response I reached out to AKittyCat via discord and was in short informed to reach out to the admins which I did, updated everyone and awaited a response.

4 days ago No mod response Still awaiting admin contact

        3 days ago Same

        2 days ago Same

Last night I reached out to AKittyCat again asking for the contact info of Gloom so we can maybe have some traction here.

2 hours later Gloom responds here basically saying that they are technically here and have had an unattended tab open, Kbin mod tools suck and …that’s kinda that?

I know this isn’t super pressing right now, but if someone wanted to try and turn this into WrestleWithThePlot, post anything inflammatory or just pure spam we are helpless to do anything. It tooks 5-6 days while reaching out on ANOTHER platform to get a single response on here, and both mods have basically admitted they don’t check the sub.

I’m doing some reading up as there is no moderation queue for moderators - only the OWNER can see what has been reported, and that’s Kitty at the moment. What I can do as a moderator is if I am reading posts/threads and find something reported, I can see that it has been reported and take action. But that’s the only way I’ll find it.

I’ll talk to Kitty to see if they want to transfer ownership to me so I have a mod queue. I’m terminally online (I have something like 4000 mod actions a month on Reddit) and knowing I can actually get reports will remind me to check a few times a day. From there I can add other mods but they’ll be restricted to the stumbling method (or, can outright remove things they find on their own), but can also pin and if they want to do something fun with the instance beyond general conversation, we can get that going.

We’ve been lucky in that so far I’ve found two things that warranted removal.

Yes this wasn’t a dig at anyone or anything of the like. I was literally watching Dynamite and on the thread and it dawned on me that we don’t seem to have any but that everything was running just fine without. I just really disliked the thought that someone could completely hijack this and ruin it forcing us to pack up once again.

Thank you for your responses, we are all learning how all this newer platform works together as it evolves and grows.

Just wanted to say thanks for getting the ball rolling on this. If this place grows and thrives, you deserve a lot of credit for reaching out and getting our mods back.

Thanks! That means a lot from someone who has been pumping out discussion threads for every show! That’s been huge IMHO to just make it feel more active and “like home”.
