The obnoxious 1990s video game mascot has officially returned!
“Which one?”
Uh, good point.
This is the Crystal Dynamics character who made his debut on the 3DO… then quickly switched to other formats when it was clear the 3DO format was going nowhere. Evidently the game will be released in a partnership between Limited Run Games and Square-Enix… which is odd, as I was under the impression all of Square’s Western properties but Life is Strange were sold to the Embracer Group last year.
Personally, I’ve never played Gex 2 or Gex 3, but I have sunk my teeth into the original Gex (on the 3DO, as a matter of fact!), and it’s a solid side-scrolling platformer with competent, if not Miyamoto-quality, level design. One presumes (and deeply hopes) that the snarky quips from Dana Gould can be toggled off in this Carbon Engine-powered remaster.
By the way, someone on YouTube whipped up a handful of animated scenes for a fictional Gex cartoon, and it’s both impressive and very convincing.
