So I am building a home theater and I recently bought a new epson home cinema 4010 and mid-range denon 5.1 receiver. I have an xbox, wii, blu-ray player, and apple tv 4k hooked up to the receiver, with one hdmi out cord going to the projector. Every source works perfectly fine on the projector except for the apple tv. When I try to use the apple tv through the receiver to the projector, the projector flashes green for about a second and then goes completely blank (as in not projecting anything even though it’s on). I know that the projector is receiving a signal because it is not showing HDMI 1 no signal screen, but it refuses to show the video of the apple tv. The sound of the apple tv comes through the 5.1 setup even though I can’t see it. What’s even more frustrating is that if I unplug the HDMI cord going to the projector and instead plug it into a TV and don’t change anything, the apple tv video shows up on the tv. This made me think that maybe the projector can’t handle the apple tv for whatever reason, but to test this I plugged the apple tv directly into the projector (not through the receiver) and it worked just fine.
Eventually I figured out how to get the apple tv to show up on the projector through the receiver. If I plug the hdmi out cord from the receiver into the HDMI 2 port instead of the HDMI 1 port on the projector it shows up. The difference between the two ports is that the HDMI 1 is HDCP 2.2 while the HDMI 2 port is HDCP 1.4. From what I understand, HDCP 1.4 is for HD content and HDCP 2.2 is for 4k content.
Basically my question is how can I get the apple tv to work in the HDMI 1 port of the projector going through the receiver. Do I need to change visual settings on the receiver or apple tv? I know its possible because I have family who have the same projector and apple tv (different receiver) and the apple tv through the HDMI 1 port works perfectly fine. I would really hate to have to use the HDMI 2 port due to the fact that it will not be as high quality as the HDMI 1 port (that’s my understanding, I could be wrong) and I spent a lot of money on this 4k projector.
Thank you very much!
*it is not a cord issue as I have tried multiple different HDMI cords*
