All About That Bass - Postmodern Jukebox European Tour Version

Woof! :D
I.e., a uniquely Euro-American, sexy mashup of ridiculous fun.

Just heard that one the other day by “PostModern Jukebox.” Good stuff.

Wish I could say that I loved all the rearrangements, but it’s not always true. Sometimes something essential is lost, with not enough compensation. Still a great project, tho.

It certainly fits the old school BD material really well. On the other hand, Moebius futuristic style fits best with spacey synth wave vibes in my opinion. When Jodo joins in, a more slapping variety is necessary of course. Both tracks are in this playlist btw, which is not just great for reading futuristic books and comics but also for gaming.

Oh dear; I don’t have Spotify.
They seem to need a signup of my personal info, and that’s still a NYET from me.

You need to make a free account but there is no reason to give them your true identity. Just use an anonymous email and give them fake personal info.

Okies, finally got my Spotify going.
Was pretty surprised to see the name “Kurzgesagt,” as that appears to be the very same folks who make awesome little videos about the cosmos, which I watch on YT.

I liked the first tune, and in fact listen to stuff like that all the time. An example is this cool channel which combines audio from the NASA missions with such background music:
      https://somafm.com/missioncontrol/

Second tune was a bit bland for me, but I’ll be checking out the playlist next; thanks! :D

It used to be my favorite playlist for gaming (I recently stopped gaming, not sure why). There are many good tunes in it, very few bad ones for such a long list. Enjoy!

May I ask what games do you (did you) like to play?

As an older fellow with weak health, I quite like puzzles / adventures / strategy games. Also, I’ve preserved a bunch of Flash classics that can still be easily played today. Some of them are surprisingly good for essentially being throwaway / free games.

Or if you have an Android device, I did a little roundup here.

Anyway, I think that playlist would suit me best for FPS’s (like Quake 3A) or “Armagetron” (3D light-cycle racing inspired by the classic film “Tron”). Ah, those were the days… 🥴

My answer to that question could easily fill a book, that´s how addicted to gaming I used to be. I will name only a few favorites mostly based on your preferences.

My favorite video-game of all times and across genres is definitely FTL - Faster Than Light, a classic of the roguelite (not roguelike) genre. It does not look very impressive at first sight, but in fact it is a game with a lot of depth. The 2 developers of this little gem kind of invented their own type of game there. You play a spaceship and it´s crew trying to flee from a galactic rebel uprising to reach the rebel flagship and destroy it and of course you are the last hope of the federation. FTL puts tactical decision making and knowledge about the game above graphics and quick reflexes, in fact you can pause during fights and take as long as you want to consider your orders. It´s regularly on sale on steam for around 2 dollars. If you enjoy a challenge, I wholeheartedly recommend trying it.

My favorite adventure is Disco Elysium, it plays like an interactive dystopian Noir fiction novel and has an insane Metacritic score of 97 points, which makes it the single highest ranked PC game on Metacritic ever. For Example, Baldur´s Gate 3, GTA5 and Half-Life 1+2 got “only” 96 points.

I very much enjoyed Plague Inc a nice little strategy game in which you play a disease and try to infect and kill humanity.

My favorite grand strategy game is Total War: Warhammer

My favorite classic RPG is Divinity: Original Sin 2

My favorite action RPG is Path of Exile (which many see as the spiritual successor of Diablo 2)

I could go on forever but just ask me if you are interested in more games of a certain direction. All the games I listed are available on Steam btw.

“Armagetron” (3D light-cycle racing inspired by the classic film “Tron”)

That looks fun! Oh and I just recently learned that Moebius worked on the Tron movie too. Do you know anything about that? :)

Ooh, I love RL’s to death (any variety), and have heard about FTL since forever.

Nico, could you recommend me a reliable way to use one’s credit card in a secure way? I used to have PayPal, but my acct lapsed with unused activity.

My favorite adventure is Disco Elysium

Hmm, do you think it would work for a slowpoke like me…?

              More later?
Anyway, thanks for the feedback, bro! ^^

EDIT: Wait wait wait… if you happen to know a good “tall ships” game, then please add on? I’d totally forgotten about the film below.

I think I was too immature to appreciate it at the time, but in retro, I find it absolutely astonishing:

Then there is no question, you have to try it! :D

The other game by that dev team Into the Breach, might appeal to you too. It´s also a roguelite but of a totally different kind than FTL. The gameplay is a unique mix of chess and battletech/mechwarrior inspired turn based tactical combat.

Nico, could you recommend me a reliable way to use one’s credit card in a secure way? I used to have PayPal, but my acct lapsed with unused activity.

Sorry I pay everything online with PayPal and don´t have a credit card. Paying with your credit card on steam should be just as secure as paying with PayPal though. Also, you can just create another PayPal account whenever you want. I did it once and it worked fine.

“My favorite adventure is Disco Elysium” Hmm, do you think it would work for a slowpoke like me…?

For sure, it very much plays like an interactive crime novel, so you set the pace as you like while you play. The game is all about atmosphere and storytelling. In my opinion they could have released the story as a book just as well. If you feel like playing a filthy and dark criminalistic adventure in a capitalist dystopian setting with socialist undertones, put it on your list.

                More later?

                Sure, ask me anytime.

if you happen to know a good “tall ships” game, then please add on?

Sorry, I am not really sure what genre you mean by that. I liked Sunless Sea though, which is an outstanding lovecraftian / psychological horror roguelite, centered around ships exploring an underground ocean. The setting is based on the free to play, interactive narrative game https://www.fallenlondon.com

Oh yes! I heard that this is one of the few movies that does the topic justice and is really historically accurate. I have to watch it sometime!
