Really looking forward to the Rangers at Golden Knights tonight. Got a wager with my manager on that game, but with a 21:00 local puck drop for me, I don’t know that I’ll be able to catch all of it. Plus, I’ll be in the house for the other games on our roadie in LA, Anaheim, and San Jose. If any fans of the aforementioned teams want to chime in with respect to things to eat/drink, see, or do, etc., please feel free.
You’re going to be in San Jose? It’s been a few years since I moved out of the area, but I’ll do my best. What kind of food are you into? There’s unfortunately not a lot of tourism in San Jose, and San Francisco is a bit further than people realize. But San Francisco has tons of things to do and see.
I’m an absolute fucking sucker for a good sushi or slice of pizza. But I’m going to be landing at 11:45 am PST the day of the game, then meeting a colleague in downtown San Fran before bouncing back out for the game. Is 7.5 hours enough to do that? Also, hello my guy. It’s been a while haha. I forgot you were/are a Sharks fan!
You should be fine with that amount of time depending on what time of day you are traveling. Just remember that it may take twice as long to drive between SF and SJ if you are doing it between 5 AM and 10 AM or 3 PM and 8 PM on a weekday.
I didn’t travel to SF very often when I lived there, but I’ll bet they have some of the best sushi places in the country. Though I don’t know specifics, so you might need to do some googling to find the best ones. Near the SAP center, Sushi Confidential isn’t bad. It’s walkable from the SAP center, actually. Before I lived walking distance to the SAP center, I would park at San Pedro Square for like $7 and walk over. San Pedro Square has tons of options for local bars and food, and they’re all pretty darn good.
If I had to recommend a pizza place that’s pretty popular in that area that I like, it would be Pizza Guys. Most people really like Pizza My Heart, but I think they’re kinda average. Though I don’t think pizza in that area is too spectacular.
What is spectacular in that area are the burritos. Unlike in Austin where burritos are typically covered in sauce and eaten with a fork and knife, in California they are always served in aluminum foil, and you unwrap them as you eat them. Iguanas and La Victoria’s are the two most popular ones, and you’ll see people argue about which is better (I prefer iguanas!). Metro Balderas is my favorite burrito in San Jose, but only at the taco truck near Race Street. The restaurant isn’t as good.
Hopefully that helps a little!
I’ll probably take Bart from Milpitas to go into SF, then just bounce back the same way.
Oh, that might be better. I moved out while Bart didn’t come down that far south, or maybe it just opened up, but I always forget about it because I never used it before moving out of the area.
I think there’s technically another way that relies on a CalTrain transfer to BART, but I’d rather not rely on transfers between systems if I don’t have to. I’m not as familiar with anything out west (but feel free to ask me basically anything about the East Coast, as I’ll be moving out there in April/May.
Also, good to hear from you again
Can’t wait to watch Washington either win 3-2 or lose 7-1. There is no middle ground.
I don’t know what I found more surprising. The Oshie hatty, the two PP goals or the fact that they won by more than a one goal margin.
Spot on. The Caps’ offence is gone ever since Backy left. Imo they need to blow it up and do a hard rebuild, especially with Ovi’s record shot having evaporated. Ideally they’ll sit down with him over the offseason and just tell him they’re doing a to-the-studs teardown.
As a bonus, maybe this throttles the plan to move the team out to Alexandria because a shit team won’t bring fans there. And it’ll save the commuters at Potomac Yards, which is very much not ready for that development.
Wasn’t really doing great even with Nicky tbh. All of our best players are old, and I don’t think they’ve done a great job in bringing younger players in.
The ones that did break through got traded away; Vrana, Burakovsky, Stephenson. Meanwhile the prospects are only just now starting to come through, but in pretty sheltered roles.
Before this season I was absolutely certain that Ovi would break the record, now? Unless he’s got an injury or something he’s struggling through I just can’t see it. He’s been a negative on the team for a few seasons now, and now he’s not even scoring so…
Wouldn’t be surprised if he just calls it a career at the end of the season, alongside Nicky.
How long until 8 and 19 go into the rafters?
Iirc there’s an argument inside the fandom that you have to retire Kolzig and or Bondra first, but I’m not convinced they go that far for those guys.
If they don’t, then I wouldn’t be surprised if both go in during the same ceremony the year after they go bye-bye.
I mean, Bondra maybe. Kolzig I think would be less important in terms of sweater retirement.
