Threads vs microblogs?

Does anyone have any advice on whether to use #threads or #microblogs when you’re looking to say, start a discussion about a topic on #kbin? Is there an etiquette for what option is best? Or do people just pick depending on their mood (having a Twitter vs a Reddit sort of a day)?

    @NudelnAlDente Not sure there’s really any set ways, but I’d personally use a microblog with hashtags if I wanted some reach beyond kbin or the community I’m posting to. That said, it seems like folks on kbin might favor threads in general, perhaps because it’s most similar the posts on Reddit where many of us have come from.

    A thread is a Reddit equivalent and a microblog is a Twitter equivalent. So it really depends if you’re trying to start a discussion or just want to put something out there in my opinion

      @Helldiver_M

      Oooh… The hashtag interaction in Magazines is an interesting feature! Must say I never paid much attention to hashtags in Twitter when I used it but Mastodon’s ability to follow them is great & this sounds similarly cool.
      Where has the fediverse been the entire time I’ve been struggling with web 2.0? 😂

    If you want a twitter like experience where everything is just talking and people responding use post on kbin just like twitter. If you want threads where people upvote and downvote like Reddit use threads. Some people like Some people like both that’s why they have a kbin account. I’m only using lemmy more often cause of the wider selection of third party apps, my home is kbin thought!

      It’s not related to Meta (name aside)

      @[email protected]

      As I understand it on kbin a:

      • thread is the equivalent to a Reddit “post”. E.g. it’s the main link/image/text entry that other people can comment on that’s added to a community.

      A microblog is like a “tweet” but added to a particular magazine (aka community)

      So, for example, the all homepage of kbin social is all threads.

      But if you want to just generally throw out something to a community unrelated to any article/thread you do it as a microblog.
